Education

Claresholm's commitment to public education is clear by its support of its public schools, an Educational Consortium, Willow Creek Community Adult Learning Society, and its adult literacy program.

Claresholm is served by three public schools:

  • West Meadow Elementary School is an ECS to Grade 6 school and provides all services at the elementary level.

  • Willow Creek Composite High School is a high school serving Grades
7-12. It provides a full academic program and in addition, also provides CTS programming in areas including automotives, cosmetology, drafting, welding, and wood shop. Students taking CTS (Career and Technology Studies) courses may have the option of obtaining advanced credits for technical school or the first year of apprenticeship training. Willow Creek Composite also offers a full complement of computer classes including animation and multimedia. Currently grades 7 & 8 are located at the East Campus (former Claresholm Elementary School) and grades 9 - 12 are located at the Willow Creek Composite High School.

The Livingstone Range School Division Central Office is located in Claresholm and provides management services to 3,600 students in the division. Schools in Claresholm employ 95 personnel with a payroll of $3.5 million annually. Check out the school division's website at www.lrsd.ab.ca for more information or to link to one of the schools.

The Chinook Educational Consortium, located in the Willow Creek School Division Central Office building, provides adult upgrading, computer training, and other specialized courses.

The Willow Creek Community Adult Learning Society (WCCALS) works to determine the needs of the community and then arranges for courses in these areas. They hold two sessions a year (Fall and Winter/Spring). Persons can also visit their website at www.willowcreeklearning.ca and view detailed course information there.

Project Read is an adult literacy program. They believe that everyone has the right to learn and the right to be literate. Their purpose is to provide a one-on-one volunteer tutoring service for adults wishing to improve their reading and writing skills.
