Claresholm history
book is on sale now!
The wait is finally over. The new Claresholm history
book, “Where the Wheatlands Meet the Range,
Volume II”, was officially launched at the
Claresholm Community Centre on Sunday, May 16, 2010.
Volume two of “Where the Wheatlands Meet the Range” is
more than six years in the making, is 918 pages in
total, and contains updates from volume one, information
missed in the first book and much more. Just over half
the book is family histories written by locals, but the
remainder is a wealth of information not found in most
community history books.
There are sections with some brief
history of Alberta, a listing of all members of
parliament, members of the legislature and municipal
councils for the area, and pioneers of the area up to
1905 with a listing of descendants still in the area.
There is material on farming and ranching; the airport;
industrial airport area; veterans, courtesy of David
Hart; local cemeteries, including lists of who is
interred; town facilities; education; health; local
organizations; sports; notable people; events; and
provincial and town anniversaries.
People can purchase their copies of the history book for
$85 a piece at the Claresholm Local Press at
403-625-4474, Claresholm Public Library at 403-625-4168
or Claresholm and District Museum. People who have
pre-ordered books can still pick up their copies of the
book and pay the balance owing. Only cash and cheques
will be accepted and arrangements can be made to have
copies mailed out. People can also pick up any pictures
they submitted for the book at the library.
