The
Claresholm Museum, officially opened in 1969, is
committed to preserving and exhibiting the history of
this unique region of Southern Alberta. The museum is
located in our historic sandstone railway station. The
station was built in 1912 using sandstone blocks
salvaged from Calgary's 1883 Canadian Pacific Railway
depot. Our station served the community until passenger
service was discontinued in 1965. After the station was
closed, the building was acquired by the Town of
Claresholm for a museum. The station's special history
and impressive architecture has been recognized, and the
building was granted Provincial Historic Resource
designation in 2004.
The
Visitor Information Centre is located in the Claresholm
Museum.
